Travelogue: An Artist's Journey

Robin Ann Walker's Trip to Eastern Europe, October 2003 - Page 10.

October 11, 2003

I feel great! Woke up in a warm room, all snuggled. Couldn't stay in bed with this sunrise outside my window, though. I cannot resist photographing everything in triplicate.

Later in the day I become aware of the passing of time, that this experience will soon be ending. I head outside with my camera, hoping to capture the essence of Gela.

Rose Hips!

I was enthralled by the ways these branches hung straight down. I did a painting based on this. It's my favorite painting of the 5 I completed.

My abstracted fir tree painting.

I finished this painting today. It looks like a Christmas card, but it is the exact scene from the windows of all our rooms.

I wanted to be sure to get some good photos of this, the "Magic Spring", because this is where we collected water everyday. There is a local belief that the water from this spring has healing properties. We thought it just tasted great. Peter did a fabulous painting of this spring house.

Me and Niki, saving the moment at Gela

I don't linger at dinner tonight, but go to the studio to paint. Later I have a small sense of guilt, knowing I have kept the heater for another night.
